A lone elephant walks toward you through tall grass, framed by two spreading acacia trees and a glowing evening sky. The wide format lets the tree crowns reach in from both sides like a gateway.

Printed circles and two marker tips are all you need, paint stays out of it. The elephant's creased skin and the lacy branches come alive as you add dots.

The left tree, the elephant and the right tree make three clear stages. Spread them over a few evenings and keep the grass for last.

Build the trees from trunk to twig

Begin with the thick trunks and work outward into the thin branches, changing to the fine tip as they narrow. Keep the sky bands between the branches light and even.

On the wall the dark trees pull the eye to the elephant in the open center. The layered sky behind it gives the piece a lot of depth.
